The SCC supports the mission and vision statements of
The Kailua Elementary School
Kailua Elementary School is committed to providing a child-centered environment that promotes creativity, critical thinking, and excellence. We encourage everyone to be contributing members of our community. We are lifelong learners who have HONU Pride!
The Kailua Elementary School Community Council is a wonderful and unique opportunity to help build our school (especially alumni), make a difference in public education and make decisions that affect our children and our future. This page provides information to stakeholders about our school’s finances and operations for School Year 2018-19 via our Academic Plan and Comprehensive Financial Plan.
Our School Community Council (SCC), made up of our principal, teachers, staff, students, parents, and volunteer community members, helps to craft and approve these plans for the following school year. An election is held annually to set membership on the SCC. We meet once a month for an hour and each elected seat is a two-year term. Some of us are new to the Council but we are invested and bring a unique perspective to the board with no prior experience.

Our objectives as a council are in accordance with State guidelines and consistent with BOE policies.
-
We are to advise the school regarding the planning, budgeting, implementation, and evaluation of the SIP and Academic and Financial Plan.
-
We are to assist the school in the development of the Strategic Multi-Year Plan in relation to the educational need of the students.
-
We are to encourage families to participate in the education of their child/ren.

Community Meetings
At least twice per year, we will convene meetings for the broader
community to provide input on our Academic Plan and Financial Plan for the following school year.

SY 2019-20 Documents:
Schools publish an Academic Plan each year to set the goals and priorities for student learning, programs, and initiatives, aligned to statements of funding. Our plan was approved by our School Community Council on April 25, 2018, and by Mrs. Lanelle Hibbs on May 8, 2018. Hawaii’s public schools are required by law to implement bell schedules that categorize learning and non-learning minutes of the school day (Act 167/Act 21), meeting a minimum of 1,080 student hours each year.
