A Message from Principal Doherty
Ms. Allyson Doherty
Principal
Welcome Kailua Elementary School Community!
Thank you for taking an active role in your child’s education! It is an honor and a privilege to work with you to educate the future! Kailua Elementary School is grounded in Kailua’s rich history. It is our imperative to continue to provide a high-quality education for the youth of our community.
A little bit about my background, I’ve taught kindergarten, 2nd grade, and K-6 reading intervention both in Hawaii and with the Department of Defense Education Activity in Europe. I’ve also been a district resource teacher, middle school curriculum coordinator, high school vice principal, and temporarily assigned principal for both a middle and high school. Knowing my long term goal was to become an elementary principal, the years I spent at the secondary schools I maintained a connection to elementary schools by being a national staff developer for elementary school teachers as well as served on and chaired Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation teams.
As for my educational background, I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Elementary Education from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. I also have two Master of Education degrees from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Curriculum Studies with an emphasis in Reading K-12 and Educational Administration, K-12. Needless to say, I LOVE learning!
What attracted me to Kailua Elementary School is the strong sense of community within a small yet diverse student population. I am passionate about equity and access to a high-quality education for ALL students. I believe it takes a community effort to provide this type of education.

I look forward to working with all of you! If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or just want to introduce yourself, please feel free to contact me: here. Thank you for your involvement in your child’s education!
Sincerely,
Ms. Allyson Doherty
Principal of Kailua Elementary School
